It would be dishonest to disregard Collingwood’s achievements with the bat, even though he was a superb defender. Since hitting was never his strong point, his greatest achievement was gaining a position in the middle of England’s batting order from 2006 until his retirement after the 2010/11 Ashes.
He batted with icons like Ian Bell, Kevin Pietersen, and Jonathan Trott in the middle order. Despite losing him with around 12 overs remaining, England salvaged a draw that was important to their 2-1 series triumph and retribution for the 5-0 whitewash they suffered at the hands of Australia in the previous Ashes series.
The 2010 ICC World T20 tournament was the zenith of his England career. Collingwood had a difficult season with the bat, but he led England to victory against Australia in the tournament. Since then, England has been unable to win another global white-ball championship.
